THE MAIN ERRORS OF WEBSITE DESIGN

THE MAIN ERRORS OF WEBSITE DESIGN

Website design is more than just its appearance. The first impression you can make on the user depends on the design, the convenience of his work with the site, and whether he will remember you at all.

That is why your own design should be checked very carefully, and the speech is not about subjective assessment: beautiful/ugly. In this article, we will talk about the most common mistakes in the design of web resources that really harm performance.

Poor user interface

Design rendering begins with the planning of the page structure. It is important to distribute its elements and information blocks in such a way that the user intuitively understands what and where is located.  We are used to looking for the most important information in the center or on the right side of the screen. If you do not highlight it with color or font size, it will attract more attention. The same goes for buttons. If the buttons are not signed but contain only icons, add interactive hints to them that pop up when you hover. This will make it easier for new users to use the site.

Intricate structure

Ask someone from your acquaintances who did not go to your resource earlier, go to the main page, and from there, without using a search, find a specific section or product, if it is an online store. If he manages to do this in no more than three transitions between pages, this is a good sign.
Your structure is convenient for the user if he imagines what and in which section to search. It should not be too confusing and have a huge number of categories, subcategories, subcategories, etc. The fewer clicks, the more satisfied the site visitor.

Bad color scheme choice

The importance of colors is very easy to underestimate. Of course, to choose a color that will delight absolutely everyone is impossible, and no one needs it. It’s far more important not to spoil everything. And for this, remember the following recommendations:

Do not use too bright colors;
Make the background plain, without colorful motifs merging with the text;
Try not to use more than 3 colors for decoration;
Highlight important elements primarily due to the contrast of brightness.
If you have a corporate identity, stick to it, but don’t be fanatical. For example, if the brand colors are blue and dark green, this does not mean that you need to make the blue text on a green background.

Design is not responsive

Mobile users – this is about 50% of the traffic of the average website in RuNet. And therefore, if your resource is not adaptive, it loses a huge proportion of visitors. I think you yourself remember how inconvenient it is to search for information on a page from your phone, increasing fragments of text on the screen. Therefore, it is important to follow the following requirements:

lack of horizontal scrolling;
the large font that is convenient to read from the screen of any size;
lack of flash-elements on the site;
the size of the buttons is not less than 10 by 10 mm, for convenient pressing;
the distance between the active elements (buttons, links) is at least 3 mm.
Another important feature that should be considered when creating templates for phones is the convenient location of active elements on the screen.

The green and yellow zones in the figure are the most convenient places to click. The optimal place for the button to be located in the center or the left side of the screen, so it’s better not to put the button or the capture form right under the header (site header) since the mobile user cannot reach it.

Overly complicated registration form on the site

The more you or your marketing agency know about customers and subscribers, the more effective they will be able to work with them: create loyalty programs, convert them into buyers using e-mail or calls. Perfectly.

But users can sincerely be perplexed when, during registration, they have to fill out a dozen fields in which they need to indicate their favorite movie and cat’s nickname. Therefore, the simpler the registration form, the more effective it is. Leave only the most necessary: name, password, email address or number.
